The story behind

Coaches are imposing two-door carriages of the seventeenth century, driven by professional coachmen. In the nineteenth century, they became popular for private use among the young English aristocracy, members of private, often secret clubs who made it a badge of honor to drive the vehicles themselves, despite the difficulty of handling the required team of four horses. Here, a horse blanket forms the background to a strict, geometric arrangement of harness pieces and intertwining, connecting scrolls. The carré is a tribute to the equestrian world’s distinctive metal-and-leather aesthetic: bridles, bits and snaffles join in the game. Reworked as a bandana, this House of Hermès equestrian classic swaps its original polychrome design for a pattern of dots, stars and palmettes.
