The story behind
The Emile Hermès collection keeps many antique saddles. Among the selection is a Sino-Mongolian original from central Asia that dates from the later Qing period, circa 1832. The sumptuous saddle was clearly created for a personality of some importance and probably part of a set of harnesses intended for ceremonial use. Crafted in silk velvet, lapis lazuli, silver, coral and amber. In 2018, fascinated by this exceptional piece, Wlodek Kaminski designed a faithful reproduction on a hand-embroidered blanket with cashmere appliqués, studs, threads and glass beads. Two cushions complement it and reproduce two parts of the design: a stirrup and part of the saddle pad.
