The story behind
Having already been an accomplished colorist, Richard Gorman quickly turned to abstract expression, which, from the 1990s onwards, took the form of vast fields of color displaying geometrical relationships and tensions between them and the limits of the medium. Yet, the artist makes clear that these powerful compositions are neither intended to be a narrative, nor are they meant to convey any particular idea or concept. According to him, painting is a process that begins with the choice of surface, medium and dimensions. Thanks to a wonderful partnership with Hermès, Richard Gorman's delicate design and pictorial style come to life on an extra-large beach towel.
