The story behind
The Doublé d’Hermès vase embodies the encounter between two materials: glass and leather. To shape the vase, the glassmaker uses the "overlay" technique in which seven layers of transparent and colored glass are superimposed to create a color gradient and sense of depth. The opacity of the supple leather cuff contrasts with the transparency of the glass to form a tricolor geometric pattern.
