The story behind

Bouclerie d’Attelage is a scarf created by Françoise de la Perrière in the late 1970s, in homage to the profession of our founder, Parisian harness maker Thierry Hermès. Buckles inspired by pieces in the Émile Hermès collection are arranged in neat lines, with shadow and light accentuating the relief of each. The buckles belong to harnesses, a set of components that bind horse to tack. Bouclerie Moderne is a simplified version of the scarf that emerged decades later. Clean outlines replace the sculpted contours, and the metallic sheen gives way to flat colors. The story continues with this version of the bandana that places the composition on a two-tone background surrounded by palm leaves and a sea of polka dots.
