The story behind

Uniforms worn by the Zouaves, the French-speaking infantry unit from Africa, and the Dragoons, cavalry soldiers on foot or horseback, give name to this scarf. The artist, Virginie Jamin, was inspired by the military attire depicted in the pages of a 19th-century album conserved in the Emile Hermes collection. Decorated with braids and silk embroidery, the uniforms seemed to come alive in a majestic dance, as if inhabited by their former wearers.
