The story behind
A designer, artist and scenographer, Pierre Charpin loves colour, balance and pure lines. His designs reveal a poetic sense of humour. With this scarf, he produces his version of the serpentine, a dressage figure that carves a sinuous line. Playing with scale and flat planes of colour, the composition is structured by a ribbon, which changes colour with each new turn. From between its folds, a “character” – in the artist’s words – peeks out. This protagonist is none other than a horse, which Pierre Charpin found in a 19th-century saddlery album in the Émile Hermès collection. Geometric simplicity and classical, figurative representation meet in an unusual and beguiling world.
